Thermodiag stands up to the cold

An extreme mission for Thermodiag beyond the Arctic Circle

March 2025 – Greenland.

The Thermodiag medical device, developed by F2D Medical, was tested in extreme conditions during a mission led by the High Mountain Military Group (GMHM), alongside an elite unit of the French armed forces.
The aim of this expedition was to teach mountain commandos survival skills in extremely cold conditions during a three-week raid in total autonomy, on skis and without external logistical support.

For F2D Medical, this immersion beyond the Arctic Circle was an opportunity to test Thermodiag in an environment radically different from its initial use: a continuous, non-invasive core body temperature monitoring device, originally designed for intensive care units and oncology patients at home.

The objective was clear: to remain reliable, even in extreme conditions.
In conditions where every action can compromise the survival of an injured person, the challenge was twofold:
– Not to undress the victim to take their temperature;
– Not to aggravate hypothermia through intrusive actions;
– To ensure reliable and continuous monitoring, despite temperatures approaching -20°C.

Results and lessons learned
The results are clear:
– Stable operation in extremely cold environments;
– Reliable measurements over a prolonged period;
– Ability to monitor temperature variations without physical intervention.

The test also identified areas for improvement:
– Reduce the initial estimation time (currently 30 minutes) for emergency situations;
– Better calibrate the device to detect severe hypothermia;

– Use other physiological constants captured (such as heart rate), which are useful for overall monitoring of an injured person without exposing them to the cold.

Technology ready for the field.
This mission confirms that Thermodiag, beyond the hospital setting, can find practical applications in:
– Military medicine;
– Rescue in isolated areas;
– Long evacuations in cold environments.

This is clear proof that medical innovation can be adapted to all environments — even the most hostile.
